Dangerous Goods Packaging Service is an approved Transport Canada Certified Agent

We are all very proud of the hard work that was put into getting ready. We were very nervous when the Transport Canada (TC) inspector arrived at 10 am to perform the final the audit. During the 3- hour audit, the inspector found 1 non-conformances, however, all were minor, and were corrected while the inspector was still on-site.
What were the non-conformances?

1: Signage. All door signs, inside and outside were up and displayed. Ironically, even though ICC and DGP has been part of the family business for the last 50 years, we got this wrong.
Transport Canada inspection informed me ALL SIGNAGE MUST BE ENGLISH AND FRENCH. We had all signs in English only. We are in Mississauga, why would we post signs in English and French…

"The Inspector informed us that the Transport Canada Air Cargo Security Program is a Federal requirement". Thus, we had to replace all our signs before we got our number.

After fixing the non-conformances immediately, we received our Air Cargo Security number.

US-bound air cargo security arrangements

1 July 2017, United States (US) legislation requires all air cargo being transported to the US to either be examined at piece-level or originate from a Known Consignor. Complying with this obligation will require Canadian-based exporters, freight forwarders and airlines to adopt new security measures for the preparation of US-bound air cargo.

All freight originating from Canada must be deemed secure according to the guidelines set by Transport Canada and the TSA. All freight not deemed secure must be carrier screened, and fees will apply as described below.

Example of Cost from Air Canada or your Freight forwarder in the future.

Shipments from Canada to the United States MUST have originated from a Registered Shipper AND must be screened either by an Approved Participant or the carrier (in this case, Air Canada Cargo). If screening is performed by the carrier, a cost of CAD / USD 0.15 per kilogram, subject to a minimum charge of CAD / USD 15.00 will apply. Shipments where the shipper is NOT registered cannot be accepted for travel to the USA on passenger flights.

From Canada to International (code XB-X)
A security screening fee of CAD 0.15 per kilogram, subject to a minimum charge of CAD 15.00, will be assessed per shipment for unsecured cargo, based on actual weight. If the initial screening is inconclusive, the customer will be responsible for the costs associated to break down and repackaging of the shipment.

Between Canada and the US (code XB-X)
A security screening fee of CAD / USD 0.15 per kilogram, subject to a minimum charge of CAD / USD 15.00, will be assessed per shipment for unsecured cargo, based on actual weight. If the initial screening is inconclusive, the customer will be responsible for the costs associated to break down and repackaging of the shipment.
